Touhou Reality Check

Part 1

The Awakening

My eyes fluttered open, my head was pulsing, my body was numb. I stared at the whiteness of the ceiling, or what I think is the ceiling. As I last recall I fell off a building after an accident  at my school... But nothing else...

I got up, my head went dizzy, I felt weird. I feel like some strange energy is just radiating from my body, but then again my head hurts to much to tell what is what.

After a while my eyes began to focus, I was in a hospital bed. Wait, I fell from a three story building how could I be alive much less at a hospital, shouldn't I be dead at a funeral instead?! My head merely hurt even more after those questions popped up. I wish I knew what was going on!

After what felt like hours, my head began to clear up. I decide to get up, something didn't feel right with my body though. I got out of bed and tried to walk, or at least crawl to the bathroom, but a nurse saw me and put me back to bed. As much as I protested I layed back down.

Just to kill time I tried to remember some things, I remember my name is Cathy Astra, I'm a 17 year-old student that goes to 11th grade high-school, my parents are Cindy and Robert Astra. My friends are...are....are...

Wait... now I remember, I don't have any friends.... I never wanted any, now that I think about it, it seems rather sad. But why am I thinking of this now? It feels like as if I'm a different person remembering the life of another! Did I have serious head injury? No... I fell off a building.... I'm suppose to be dead...

I looked around, I saw some magazines. I tried to reach for them, but my arm felt heavy. I reached harder, and I finally grabbed something, it was a fashion magazine, BLECH! I tossed it back at the table. I rather be bored then read something like that! I may be a girl but I'm not into that crappy beauty freak-show stuff!

I began to feel alot better, infact, I think I can walk now. I just need to reach the bathroom to know why I feel so weird. I waited for the nurse to walk by before I crawled out of bed. I began to walk closer and closer to the bathroom. But before I could reach it, someone grabbed my shoulder from behind!

"EEEEEEEEEEK!!!" I screamed, the chilly hand made my hair stand up on end!

"Sorry, but I'm glad you're awake, it took longer then I thought for you to recover from the surgery!" said a man's voice, I looked behind me to find a man in a lab coat standing behind me. He was rather tall, and for someone who wears a lab coat, he's rather good looking. I stood up straight and looked back at him.

"Surgery? But I fell from a three story building, I should've been dead before any surgery was performed!" I shouted, I then stood fast, my voice... what's wrong with my voice... it feels deeper, but still girl-ish...

"Ah yes, we couldn't save you entirely but we managed to rescue the #1 part of your body," the man then started to tap his head. Don't tell me they did brain surgery on me? No, that doesn't feel like the case... Something is wrong, I began to sweat from nervousness.

"You don't know what's become of you dear, but I'll tell you! You see, we have been working on this project that deals with making real live game characters!" said the man,

Is he mad? Seriously, what kind of project is making video game characters real?! But then that started to make me feel even more uneasy...

"But when we finally managed to create the characters, we lacked one thing..." said the man as he sighed into a serious tone.

"We couldn't get a concious mind, however" he continued, "But then we discovered brain transfusion, but we just couldn't find a good start to activate it, that is until a recent accident that happened!" he then began to look at me with a devious smile.

God is he a mad scientest or something?!

"So we managed to complete the prototype of our project and saved a life in complete success!" he finished, I stepped back a bit. The prototype of his project? Saved a life?!

I fell over, but I scrammbled towards the bathroom, I stood up tall and looked at the mirror....

I screamed....

Instead of my straight short brown hair, I had long wavy blond hair. My dark eyes are now a golden yellow. Even my height feels different!

I stared at my hands, shaking. I know this character, I played as her many times before. But only in the game, only a game. I was.... Marisa Kirisame!

I started to gasp for air, I fell over. I wanted to scream again but I was too nerve shocked to do so. The man came over to my aid and put me back to bed. I stopped shaking, but I was still shocked. How is this possible?! Was mankind hiding their true colors in the nature of science or something?!

The man left, and told me to rest till I'm ready to grasp what I've become. I looked at my hands again. These aren't my hands, and yet they are now... I can't believe it. One day I'm falling to my doom, the other I'm in a hospital as Marisa!

I shook again as a chill went up my spine. What's going to happen to me next? I'm not me, I'm not even a real person! Or what is not suppose to be real, just a fictional character. I went and lied on my side, I tried to close my eyes and go to a gentle sleep.


I woke up, my eyes still felt heavy though. I got up and rubbed them, and then I sighed. Just to make sure it wasn't a dream, I grabbed some of my hair on the side and showed it infront of my face. It was blonde... It was no dream... I fell back down and moaned.

I bet it would be almost every gamers' dream to become the character they love to play, but once they do.... it just doesn't feel and right as it would be. Maybe because life that they know will never be the same... maybe that's either a good or bad thing. These thoughts keep pondering through my head, which then started hurting.

"Ugh, what's with all these headaches!!" I screamed as I did a small tantrum in the bed like a 5 year-old. I then relaxed my body and sighed. I turned to my side, however not sleepy one bit, but at least the headache went down a bit after my fussing.

But then I heard a racket outside, like a bunch of people shouting about something and the sounds of metal wheels. I got out of bed and looked outside, all of a sudden there came a bunch of doctors with someone on a bed. As the bed rolled past, time suddenly came to a hault. It was a red-haired girl who appeared to be bleeding from her mouth, I manage to hear one of the doctors say "Fatal Injury", and then time resumed and the girl and doctors were out of sight.

That shook me up a bit, a girl was dieing right there... wait, dieing! Does that mean she's gonna-

"Ah Marisa, good to see you all better!"

I fell over from startlement, I turned around and saw the man in the lab coat again. I growled, "My name is not Marisa!" I shouted at him. "No need to get mad, just trying to help you get in person, alot of people are going to be calling you that from now on!" said the doctor, I grew furious.

I went up to the doctor and said, "What's the deal doc? First I wake up as a video game character and now you're trying to make me into her! Can't I just go HOME?!" after that last scream my head started to pulse with pain again. I moaned as I crippled to the floar in pain.

"Hmm... you seem to be suffering side-effects from the kinesis we planted into your brain..." said the doctor, it sounded like he was more like talking to himself. I got up with my head hurting. "What? What are you talking about?" I moaned,

"I'll tell you in time young one, now, tommorrow I hope you will be will be able to stand up straightly, your body was made to recover twice as fast as a normal person's body," said the man, and then he walked off.

I just stood there, just blank on what's going to happen to me. But I also wonder what's going to happen to that poor girl I saw....


The Next Day....


I woke up feeling better then ever! My headache is gone and I don't feel sore or weak anywhere. I looked around the room as I relaxed my body, I then saw what appears to be clothes on the chair in the corner.

I got up and walked towards the chair, on the clothes was a note....

"Dear Marisa/Cathy, I had these clothes designed just for you, I hope you will wear them, don't worry, I have more pairs! From You-know-who"

Oh I know who! The crazy doc who turned me into Marisa! I threw the note away and looked at the clothes, they were black and white... just like Marisa Kirisame's. I sighed, they are alot better then wearing a dang hospital gown. I went into the bathroom and changed into them, they felt rather nice on, it wasn't itchy or whatever when you first bought clothes.

However, when I fully got dressed, something was missing...

My hat....

There wasn't a witch's hat anywhere! And everyone knows a Touhou character's trademark item is their head accessory! I sighed, and decided to walk outside. The nurses just looked at me and didn't send me to my room. I felt better after a walk, but then I found the stair case to the roof. I climbed up them and went out a door at the top, the place was bare other then the tall metal fence surrounding the area.

I walked towards the fence that protect people from falling off.... falling off....

I fell off the school building, but I don't know why or how, I just know I did! I sighed as I looked through the fence, just why did I fall off? Was it some accident or did someone push me off? Or... was I trying to-

"I knew you would be here,"

I looked back to see wacko-doc-o again, I didn't really care this time, I'm too deep in thought.

"Well, I guess it's time to explain any headaches you've been having!" said the doctor.

I just glared at him...

"You see, we could not make a body with the power of 'magic', so we figured out a replacement," he continued, "We managed to enhance the powers the human mind to the point it was able to perform kinesis!"

I looked at him, he trying to say he made me psychic or something?

"We were able to give you the power of Psychokinesis and pyrokinesis!" said the doctor proudly, "However, the pyrokinesis is a only minimum to heat, not fire..."

Heh, looks like science can't do everything! I smirked, then snickered quietly.

"However, psychokinesis is a bit stronger, since we needed you to have the capabilities to fly," explained the doctor even furthur.

"How is that suppose to allow me to fly?" I moaned,

"Psychokinesis allows you to lift objects with your mind, yes? Then lift a broom with your mind and ride it, and you got yourself a flying broom!" he replied,

I understand now, he gave me psychokinesis to fly, and the pyrokinesis was to be used like Marisa's magic, which circles around heat and light! I thought to myself, I should take this a little more seriously! I have powers now, so I got to be careful, and I tend to get headaches when I lose my temper which can be a VERY bad thing.

"Ah yes, I forgot to tell you, ready to meet your partner?"


"Wait, what?!"
