Magic

"That was kinda mean..."


Mitsu came out of hiding behind my back and pouted at me. "But Mitsu, she said, it was either play or die!" I said, Mitsu shrugged, "Point taken..."

But then Mitsu noticed something sticking out of my skirt pocket...

"What was that thing you threw?" she asked,

I took out a scroll and showed it to her, "Ofuda?" she questioned, but I shook my head. "These are scrolls that are used to create magic spells, with a spell they can become weapons like this!" and then I threw a scroll at the door, it got stuck there as if it was made of metal.

Mitsu awed at it, but she sighed, "Can't you cast your own magic?" I puffed up, "Of course I can! But my magic is that of non-elemental, but the scrolls allow me to use anytype of magic, and besides it's good for beginners!" I explained,

"Okay, but I'm going to do it without any scrolls of yours!" said Mitsu confidently, and then she ran back into the house, which wasn't a good idea because I heard shouting and the word "Sorry" blown in the air.

I then thought it would be a good idea to start on some spell cards, but if what Yukari says is true, I better do it at a good clearing!

I went inside, seeing the mess of a fox youkai holding it's tail and a cat youkai saying sorry about the couch along with Mitsu. I got upstairs and reached the study where I got my case of cards.

I left with the same mess in the 1st floor...

I looked around, but there were still alot of things that could get damaged. I sighed, but then I came around a nice clearing. I ran into the center where I started to get to work!


Later...


"Let's see, that one is.... Mental sign- [Psychic imbued Danmaku]..."

I currently finished my 4th card which was a rather powerful one at that! I practice manipulating danmaku with my mind and there for I came out with the latest one.

But then I suddenly realized I was really tired, I yawned and started to head back home, that is, until something bumped into me!

"OW!"

I moaned, but then I looked up to see this mass of darkness looming over me.

I backed away, but then I found out that it appeared to be in pain. And then a child's cry spoke out, "Ouch, what did I hit this time? Felt like something fleshy!"

I know who that is from the game, it's Rumia the youkai of darkness!

"Are you a human?" said the floating mass of darkness.

"No, youkai, once a human, but now I'm a youkai!" I explained,

"Is that so~?" moaned Rumia,

And then the darkness started to fly off, but then it started to hit some trees...

I put my hand on my forehead, "Is it really worth it to be in the dark all the time? Then again it might also hide all her bumps and bruises!" I laughed,

I continued my path towards home, but when I got there I saw Ran and Chen fanning themselves, I guess they got too tired. I waved, Chen waved back, and then I went into the house.

It was somewhat furnished alot better now, some parts still needed work but me and Mitsu can handle it on our own. Speaking of Mitsu, where is she?

I went to the backyard to check on her, but she wasn't there. I went back inside to the bedrooms, she wasn't there either... I kept wandering around the house till I saw that the study door was open, as I last checked I closed it.

I went in to see Mitsu asleep on the desk, she looked so peaceful, I wonder how long she was asleep...

I went over to her and to my surprise she was working on her cards, but she didn't seem to manage them to work...

I focused my power on her,  floating just above my arms, since I am too physically weak to carry her. I put her into the new bed Yukari and her shikigami brought in.

I closed the door behind me and I walked back into the study to gather all her cards and place them back. I sighed as I looked through the window. Everything feels so weird now, I guess it's just Gensokyo... or that we're in Genoskyo...

I put the box in a shelf, and I sat down and started studying on more types of scrolls I can make...


Hours later...


I was still working on my magic scrolls. After coming to a realization on how we were to suppose to get food, I have discovered a scroll that will help grow a garden, but we need to plow the land for the garden before I use it... That will take a while, even with magic...

I went ahead and got oustide, I started manipulating the tools with my mind and turning our backyard into a garden. But the use of my magic after training is making me tired, I wonder how long I can keep this up... But then I heard footsteps behind me, but not wanting to mess up I didn't turn my head.

"Starr~ What are you doing?"

It was the voice of Mitsu...

"I'm trying to make a garden, so that we can grow food we can eat..." I said, Mitsu walked into my field of vision and I saw she was curious about the garden, it was half done and yet I feel like I could collapse anytime now!

Mitsu turned towards me and then gave a look, "Starr you look awful, you should get some rest!" she said, but I had to keep working you can never get anywhere without pushing yourself a bit!

"No Mitsu, I'm fine, I have... to finish the garden..." I said, wearly... Mitsu sighed then went back inside.

I continued the work, until the land was bare and ready. But I was too tired to use my scrolls and I decided it was best to go to bed for tonight...

"Working hard Astrid?" said Yukari as I entered the house, I nodded... sorta and continued to go to my bedroom.

Yukari fanned herself and said, "That reminds me of another magician I know!"


The Next Day


I woke up sore all over, I barely got out of bed...

"Ow, I guess using magic has a physical toll too..." I moaned as I rubbed my back.

I got dressed and went down stairs and started to continue on the garden.

I went over to the soil, it was not very fertile but I'll be able to fix that, but that's not the only problem. I looked up at the trees which covered the sunlight. I guess it wouldn't hurt to cut down a couple of trees...

I threw two scrolls at two trees and they exploded on contact, causing the trees to fall over and crash but letting the fresh sunlight flow into the land. I then tossed another scroll on the ground to make the soil fertile, I searched up all I needed to do this. But then...

Some fairies came out of the trees I knocked down, they looked angry!

"Oh crap, they look pissed!" I said right before they started spraying danmaku at me. I then tossed some of my scrolls in the shape of danmaku back at them causing them to pop like balloons. I guess they were just those mindless fairies that just spray danmaku at anything that goes pass them...

I then started to toss different scrolls on the ground, one for each plant that we are going to grow.

I then stood back and clapped my hands, the scrolls disappeared and turned into a bright energy that sank into the ground, next plants like fruits and vegtables started to grow. However, even though they grew greatly, they were not ripe, that is something only nature and time can do...

But then I heard the sounds of someone gasping from behind me!

I turned around to see Mitsu in awe, she then flew right past me, and went straight to the garden! She pratically ran over me!

"They're beautiful, but couldn't you make them... you know... ripe?" she said as she admired the garden,

I shook my head, "No, that's something that we have to do ourselves, I just started things out," I explained,

Mitsu kept looking at the garden, but then she looked at me. "Do we have a watering can?" she asked,

"You do now!"

That voice, I turned my head to see Yukari holding a rather elegantly designed watering can. Mitsu went and took it right away with her eyes glittering with joy.

I think she likes the garden...

I sighed and went back inside, but then I found a table with plates of food on it. Yukari came in and smiled. I guess she made breakfast, or at least brought it!

"Well, dig in! You need to eat to grow up big and strong~!" she said as she patted my head.

Okay, I may be a baby youkai, but I'm mature in mind ya know!

I sat at the table and waited for Mitsu to come in. I ate my breakfast slowly, but Mitsu ate her's up quickly and ran back outside. I sighed and continued my breakfast...


After breakfast I walked upstairs and entered the study, I looked around the place. It still feels weird to have this knew life... Speaking of which, I wonder... what's going on with my parents right now? I guess they think I'm dead...

I slumped on the desk, I just broke my parent's hearts from that, I just wish I could go and tell them that I'm okay...

Speaking of which, I have yet to see neither Reimu or Marisa yet and tell them about how things ended up. Or were they never part of the dream in the first place either?

None of the less, I got up and took a bunch of scrolls with me, you never know! Along with my spell cards. Seeing how youkai can ambush along with fairies, I better keep myself equip with everything I need to protect myself!

I then ran downstairs to meet up with Mitsu who was wondering what's the hurry for.

"Where are you going Starr?" said Mitsu as she bit her long sleeve, I stopped and said, "To see the Hakurei Shrine, I wanna meet up with Reimu and Marisa!"

Mitsu clapped, "I wanna go too!" Man, she can be such a child, but I said, "Okay," and we started walk up to the Hakurei Shrine.


The walk took forever until we started to see sakura trees. I smiled at the beautiful scene, even though I kinda hate the color pink, the petals were rather pretty.

I walked up the steps while Mitsu merely hovered, oh, I'm gonna fly someday too Mitsu, just you wait!

As I walked up, I saw a small shrine with a donation box in the front of it. It was simple and yet held the power of the great border inside it. However, it is sad for it is believed to be a godless shrine.

I saw Reimu sweeping the sakura petals away. I went up to her and said, "Yo, Reimu!"

Reimu turned away from her sweeping but she gave me an odd look, "Do I know you?"

I forgot, I have to act quickly, I'm a youkai and she's a youkai exterminator! If I don't say who I am, she might attack me!

"It's me Cathy Astra, even though I now go by the name Astrid Kyohaku!" I said, hopefully she was part of the dream I had or I'm doomed!

Reimu gasped, but then her face grew fierce and angered, she went up to me. Oh great, I really am doomed!

And then she slapped me across the stone path into a bunch of sweeped up petals! And said,


"You're an idiot!"
