She is an outsider who died an unknown death, and accidently escaped the process for her soul to obtain a ghost body.

Events such as these are the main cause of birth of reikons. (*1)

However, because she interacted with a human during her escape, the part of her soul that didn't become a ghost had solidified into a humanoid figure

She is always seen with a ghost the size of her humanoid body.

Since she is an outsider, she is rather interesting to both human and youkai alike

She recalls no memories of the time she spent in the outside world.

Infact, Youji Kawairashii isn't even her real name, but a name that was given to her (*2)

But she does remember her knowledge of the outside world, along with her familiarity with objects from the outside world (*3)

Since her soul half that didn't become a ghost has no true containment, it can take on the form of anyone she touches willingly

There is no time limit to this transformation, however she never keeps it up for long.

She also can only transform into the last person she interacted with

She likes to wander aimlessly a lot, but she visits the shrine and Kourindou from time to time.


Eyewitness Reports

"When I first saw her, I felt a sudden chill despite her warm smile," (Anonymous)

Being a ghost, her body temperature is rather cold

But her humanoid half tends to give off heat, making her warmer than normal ghosts.

It is possible that Gensokyo's history and the outside world's history are different

Since events in Gensokyo are never heard of in the outside world, and vice versa.

"She comes into my shop looking for objects from the outside world, however she doesn't buy something every time she comes" (Kourindou Owner)

Being from the outside world, she can easily identify such objects

It is possible she goes to Kourindou to look for objects to jog her memory (*4)

Being a reikon, she is lighter than a human baby

But she rarely ever flies do to her acrophobia(*5)


Countermeasures

Despite being an outsider, she gets along with humans very well, so countermeasures aren't really necessary.

But one must be careful not to hit her ghost half

Unlike ordinary ghosts, you cannot get frostbite from touching her

But she shares pain with both halves, so slapping her ghost half is like slapping her face.

If ever provoked, she will not directly attack but rather toy with whoever provokes her by possessing their body and playing with it like a puppet

This causes no harm however, but merely a punishment of humiliation.

She is rather weak, and has very little combat skills so she might flee if she sees something fearful (*6)

Whenever she copies someone's body, you can tell it's her by looking into her eyes, because she cannot change the color of her crimson eyes.

It is best to treat her kindly, her personality doesn't differ than that of a young child's
